Association For Sustainable Community Development (ASSCOD)

Association for Sustainable Community Development (ASSCOD) is a registered voluntary organization formed in 1994 with operations in rural districts of Tamil Nadu. The organization originally focused on health issues of the poor people since its inception. In the year 2000, ASSCOD has gradually expanded its focus on promoting the social and mainly the economic development of the rural poor through women empowerment, health and education projects. We devised major development activities based on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). ​

At the core of ASSCOD’s innovative approach is the Community-Based-Organization (CBO) framework, which provides us with a valuable entry point to rural communities and enables us to effectively implement changes at the grassroots for local populations. The activities we undertake all fall under the CBO framework, ranging from Women empowerment and entrepreneurship programs to health, education and disaster management initiatives. The CBOs (Self-Help Groups – SHGs, Federations and Apex Bodies of SHGs) we form are thus able to take up development challenges and achieve sustainable development through facilitated access to networks and linkages with government organizations, international development organizations and banks.
