Counterfeits and amendment to the consumer protection act

Posted By Admin on 21 Dec 2017

The proposed changes to the consumer protection act have many provisions which would impact the counterfeit and look alike products. Although the act & the suggested changes, gives new provisions to the consumers to take effective actions against the violators, it also gives extra powers to the agencies to even take suo-moto actions for the good of consumers.

Certain provisions of the new changes are particularly of great importance, which deal with the false product claims and misleading advertisements. It has been observed that many counterfeit & look alike products also lack the product features & manufacturers guarantees and with the added provisions of the proposed changes to the consumer protection act, there will be harsher penalties and actions on such manufacturers.

Brand owners can now involve more & more consumers, consumer groups and NGO’s to get rid of the fake products circulating in the market.

The www.brandsandfakes.com platform helps brand owners brings the consumer groups, individual consumers and NGO’s on the single platform along-side brand owners, to effectively fight counterfeits. The provisions of the consumer protection act are used along IP laws and other provisions of the IPC for effective actions.
